Dreaming really (note 1920 res. hack for PB thread here has over 100k views, Apple get a clue!), but hopefully the delay has more to do with better upgrades, vid chip (Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GTX, 512 MB please), a true HD screen (WQUXGA ( would be even nicer, 4k res, yeah baby, just the ticket for Leopard and the 17in model), etc. ; than limited supply of Merom's...why put them in the iMac 1st when the profit margin is higher on the MBP's- which are in more need of an early upgrade than the iMac?

Dell already has these features in one of it's expensive laptops (though almost twice as thick, which makes it much easier to implement):

    ### I hope you're right about a GO 7900 gtx, but it will shock me. Apple has always had limited choices (if any)...lower performance gpu's in their laptops compared to Dell or Alienware. *I* don't want 1920res...1680 is a nice res.

Well, I've recently heard some speculation about a smart device from Apple to go along with the consumer device and if Palm is hearing the same whispers, I'd think it would be a bit concerning. However, Palm just introduced the Treo 680p, so it may not matter as much, once that has been deployed on various carriers' networks.

Yeah, I have too, but I don't buy it, really. If you look at Apple's products aimed at professionals/businesses, they're exclusively either Macs or software/software houses they've acquired. I don't think Apple is likely to break with the success it has had offering consumer hardware like the iPod. The iTV will follow in that tradition.

For the record, I really like PalmOS. It does what it's supposed to do very well. What concerns me is the way the companies (or have they reamalgamated now?) are being led in a strange direction - the move to Windows Mobile looks to me like Palm/Palmsource trying to hedge their bets rather than properly marketing what they have had going for them all these years. Time will tell whether it's a good business decision, and whether the PalmOS survives at all. I, for one, hope that it does.

If I remember correctly, Palm software and products were originally developed by a group of ex-Apple employees, weren't they? I think they're the same faction that struck out for a bit by starting Handspring (later brought back into the fold).

    1.67 x 3 = 5

    1.67 rounded UP = 2

But it's perfectly acceptable to round 1.67 down too, it's half way between 1.5 and 2. Also depends on the price of a Sidcrome socket set.

I'll believe this 2x battery life bollocks when I see the results from the labs, not some chintzy marketing ploy by Intel.

You people can't wait an additional three months (July, Aug, Sept)?

I have been waiting since Jan. when Verizon got the iPhone 4.

I have to disagree. What makes you think Apple is going to go with only a video rental service?

Rumor has it Steve wasn't able to secure download rights..only rental. Guess we'll find out by this time tomorrow.

HEY! who's he calling a "PC guy"??!
Exactly! Maybe I'm reading too much into this quote, but the "PC guy" remark makes me think that the "Palm guy" is already angry knowing he is about to get his clock cleaned. Time will tell. No doubt, however, that I'd rather put my money on Apple than Palm. Gheez.

I welcome this idea. Intel is a disgusting anti-competitive company that cannot play fair. Apple is forced to use Intel's chipset and IGP instead of Nvidia which may have lead Apple to a decision like this. ARM is the future as is iOS, so like it or lump it. The low end Macs would probably have ARM and others both ARM and Intel. I would also welcome a switch to AMD.

Kind of like Apple. And you would welcome a switch to AMD? That would be three steps backwards.

The big deal is that i do not want buggy, resource stealing software on my mac. Simple as that.

Exactly, there's no reason for a Mac to need virus protection. Just a waste of CPU cycles, RAM, and disk IO.

And any PC user that doesn't have AV protection is just asking for it. It's not our responsibility to save their ass. Maybe if they actually do get a(nother) virus they will make the switch!

A processor update only matters if software is written that requires it -- and no developer is going to risk cutting off access to a huge segment of the customer base by writting software that specifically requires the latest iPhone.

So, really, you're paying for power that you can't use 99% of the time.

    Wow, a dollar a year!

No, $20 a year. The "buy a song" promo is a one-time offer. After the year, it drops back to 5GB free.

I agree with I student UK using the constraints of / makes it rather ambiguos (did I spell that right) as I originally read it. I believed the 2(9+3) to be in the denominator in which case the answer is clearly 2

You can't assume that 2(9+3) is under the denominator

They way it is explicitly written is interpreted to be (48/2)*(9+3)

I'm not could be the next great product to be unveiled @ WWDC, but it seems a little soon and I just can't really see Apple making a phone. Sorry. While I'm sure if it is true, it'd be a cool phone, but it just seems like one of those rumours that comes up occasionally and then goes away, just like the Tablet Mac. On the other hand, the Marklar rumours were true, so I don't know. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

    Yeah tell me about it.

How much does it take to break a Verizon contract again...?

It's $175, and I think it'd be worth it. I never get more than maybe three bars, and let's just forget their international plans. I think I'm going to switch to T-Mobile in a few weeks. My Verizon phone was $1.50 a minute internationally and it didn't even work in Rome and my aunt's T-Mobile phone I borrowed for my trip to Singapore was $0.99/min. and worked so well.

Shame - a bit of competition couldn't hurt iPad development.

How is the iPad going bad, the new one is incredible, the first gen still rocks for most things. Retina is coming we all can assume that the next jump will be even bigger and Retina as well as way better cameras are in the works.

Competition is good, but considering what I have seen there is no competition just companies throwing money behind half baked scheme hoping something will stick.

Sure I like a bit more control with the UI but you can't have it all.

This may be a dumb question, but why would apple just use the new chips in mbp's and not the mb? Dosn't seem to make sense. As soon as core 2 merom comes out every pc notebook will have it. Price wouldn't be an issue cause merom is same price as yonah, correct?

    "Kill the Competition"

Look Samsung shipped 2 million of their first tablets and they haven't all sold yet. If they had Sumsung would report that to you. The Xoom has only sold 100k in a period of time the ipad 2 has sold much more.

Lets look to see how things shake up when the competition sells out of their current inventories before cries of unfair competition get hurled about.

Motorola is not trying to buy the same quantities as Apple. That would be self destructive given the poor sales numbers. They buy what they hope they can sell.

You can always donate to the federal reserve. Don't let me stop you!

Pardon me for trying to spread the responsibility across the board.

I realize how grossly unfair that is.

I'll get a MBP once Apple or someone else figures out how to make them work on an air flight. There is no Empower solution and the draw of 85w exceeds the juice (75w) that the seatside powerports provide. It's amazing this is even an issue in a "pro" line of portables - let alone from Apple. No 3rd party solutions solve this isssue.

This is a big issue for me also. I can't believe they havent released a air/auto power adapter yet for the magsafe power design.

APPLE WAKE UP!!! i want to upgrade from my powerbook, but need this!

I urge anyone who is a regular Macrumors reader to ignore anyone labeled as Newbie in threads/discussions on this tracking/location issue. Most are trolls.

I've been reading MacRumors for years - only added to the discussion a few times since 08. Not a troll, but still considered a "newbie". :D
